According to ICC the essence of coaching is: to help a person change in the way they wish and helping them go in the direction they want to go. Supporting a person at every level in becoming who they want to be. It builds awareness, empowers choice and leads to change.
Therapy provides emotional healing and relief from mental pain, mostly from past experiences. Coaching focuses on here and now, unlocks a person's potential to maximise performance. Co Active coaching asks powerful questions, listen and empower to develop skills and creativity a client already has, rather than instruct or advise.
Best friend will be subjective, partial and might fail to be blunt not to damage the relationship.
A standard trajectory with a coach is 3 months, mostly extended at the request of the client for an average of two more months. One hour session per week, but this can be customized if desired.
It is always possible to hire a coach for a specific project or life circumstances. It is also common to have follow up sessions once or twice a year.
